Today, I was at the immigration office to extend a friend’s visas stay in Malaysia. It was such a dissapointment. We were thinking that we would skip the queue if we were to go there early. We manage to reach there at 8.40. The queue wassn’t long and we were able to get the form and we were told that we will need to go to a “Sumpah (Oath)” Office in order to fill up one of the form. When we reach there at 9.00am(at the same building), I was given a number(4) and went straight to take a seat. Waited till 10.00am for the person to come and start doing the oath form. Then we went back to the immigration and took a number (6104), current number at that time was 6055 (on 10.10am). Went out for some breakfirst, when we were back on (10.35am), the number was (6067) with three counter open. Malaysia passport section was quite empty and worker was chatting. While there is a lot of people waiting for the Visas section and three counter was working slowly. On 12.15pm, we went to ask if we are going to make it cause lunch was 12.45pm to 2.00pm and number was (6095). The lady told us that we will be able to make it before lunch. Looking at the counter, seeing 2 counter was already closed and the lady working was quite slow. On 12.50pm, the number was at (6098!), only 3. We could have gone out and do something else rather than waiting at the building. We eat at the building and rush back affraid that we miss our number. Finally we have it done and got out at 2.45pm.
I just think that government should be more efficient in order for the society to be effective. I wasted almost my whole day just waiting and full of dissapointment.

Agreed. Malaysian do waste loads of time waiting to do offical stuffs at civil services institutions. Can’t think of any alternative with the current practice.
Online processing of documents perhaps, and meetings to be arranged at specific times, only if needed. If everything are in order, solve application without presence being needed straight-away.

And doesn’t it worry you that some government officials want to absorb the many unemployed people by hiring them for their departments?? More people to pass papers around and slow things down!!
What the freak was the use of our PM’s highly publicized visits to the departments when he first took office?
Like a lot of things, like the publicity on snatch thefts, on corruption, NATO – No Action, Talk Only. This is BS.
