We appologize for the downtime you have faced today at our Classifieds. We have restored our site one day back because it was doing fine yesterday. It seems to be some file modification that is causing problem to our website. Everything is running fine and things are back normal again.

Clean up on our advertisements post

We had to do a massive cleanup on our list of advertisements as there is too many spam and we had to take them out of our database, including their entries and pictures. Also we added more words that will be blocked for posting to prevent affiliates link and spammers.

Those that are posting inappropriate ads will be blocked forever. We hope that everyone will post proper information that will benefit our community and not misuse this free classifieds.

Slowness in our server

For those who are using ISP Streamyx is having slow connection due to detected a cable fault on the Southeast Asia-Middle East-Western Europe 4 (SMW4) submarine cable network between Alexandria in Egypt and Palermo in Italy linking Malaysia to Europe and the United States (US). The consortium will be carrying out repair works on site on Saturday, 24 April 2010 and it is expected to be completed on Sunday, 2nd May 2010.

Looking at other classifieds script

We are currently looking at other classifieds script because this script that was bought 5 years ago is not updating as fast as the trend demands. We will be looking for beta users very soon, if you like to be one, kindly contact us.

This script is powered by a cms, so it would be easier for me to update the site accordingly and there is a lot of plugins available. Look forward for more updates.

Should I ban foreign IP to my Malaysia Classifieds?

I am having a dilemma now with more and more foreigners coming to my classifieds to post ads like iphone unlock or bicycle or any other stuff at a ridiculous low price. And now I have a new type of spammer who come here to post a valid car but they use different email for each car they wants to sell. It is kind of weird, but I am not sure what are they up to.

Ok, we are now stable and running fine. Syiok.com is currently on a semi-dedicated hosting with ServerFreak, thanks to all your support Syiok.com is growing since and will be 5 years old very soon. I know that there are more competitor coming out but this is still manage by me alone and this website is still far fetch from being able to replace my salary since we are encountering much more cost with this semi-dedicated hosting bill every month.

Nevertheless, my new web hosting company, ServerFreak support has been great and we had minimal downtime transferring our files to this new hosting and issues that have been sent to us are now solved (if you have any please contact me). Setting up was an ease and when I had problem, they resolved it quickly, plus I got a telephone number to call 24/7.

As for the speed and connection, they are now hosted in US server, but I am still able to load the website pretty fast and uptime is rated at 100% which is just what we need, as previously we have quite a lot of downtime with my previous hosting.

So after more than a month of moving to this new hosting, I am proud to say that we are hosted by Serverfreak.

Moving to a new Semi-Dedicated hosting

We have just moved toÂ a new hosting, to a better hosting that would allow more load onto our server. But there will be some advertisements missing and some registration may be missing when we transfer the database to our new server.

New category for Camera for Sale and Barter Trade

We have added new category for Malaysian to trade at our classifieds. They are Gadgets for sale, Camera for Sale and Trade / Exchange.

Since we go so many gadgets these days, like USB gadget, car gadgets, phone gadgets and much more could be added into this new category.

Camera category is because I am seeing a lot of camera enthusiast and consumer starting to buy and sell second hand lens, body, equipment online via forum and hoping it will catch trend here.

Trade / Exchange is a barter system whereby we could do top-up in the event that some value does not match. Anyway this is a trial, if its picks up, it will stay.
